CMS, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) in collaboration with Yuva Ignited Minds, an organization working towards social causes organized a massive cleaning drive on 14 December 2019 with an attempt to revive the Ulsoor Lake. The drive witnessed a turnout of over 400 students coming together and take steps towards a clean and green Bangalore.
During this visit, volunteers were divided into different groups who then worked towards cleaning the garbage pile accumulated near the lake water, the urban residencies around the lake and planted saplings near the lake. Bags and garbage-filled with discarded scraps of plastic, clothes were also collected.
The initiative was graced by the presence of dignitaries like Mr. Goutham Kumar, Mayor of Bengaluru BBMP, Mr. V Ramprasad, Co-Founder, Friends of Lakes and Mr. Thejaswini Ananth Kumar, Chairperson, Adamya Chetana. It also received immense support from 'Students for Development' who provided the equipment for the drive and the Karnataka Civil Defense who dispatched a boat with two supervisors to assist with the lake cleaning.
Commenting on the cleaning drive, Mr. Goutham Kumar appreciated the efforts of the volunteers in cleaning up the lake. "It's amazing to see youngster's working towards the betterment of the environment", he said. The drive was funded by 'Cyclothon', an event previously conducted by the same organization to create awareness about lakes through cycling.
