Abhinaya, a theatre fest hosted by JU-CMS under the umbrella of the CMS Festival, took place at the JSS auditorium. The event started with Dr. Chenraj Jain speaking about youth losing interest in Indian performing arts like music and drama. He also stated, “Next year, the Abhinaya Fest would be bigger, as I’d be taking personal interest and would take it altogether to another level.” The judges for the play fest were Sri Ramkrishna, Jaswant Desai and Ravindra Diwakar. On the first day of Abhinaya, we had eight teams performing, who had come down to Bangalore from different parts of India. Silent Zone by Dalmia Theaters and Choice is Yours by Mumbai Mahapalika Kridabhavan had the actors delivering outstand performance. Safed Ghode Pe Sawar by Navi Mumbai Drama Circle. Samanantar by Honeywell Theater Group, Bangalore demonstrated the existence of the good and bad world on the same platform.

Theatre is a micro-cosm of life in its myriad forms. Abhinaya 2011, the theatre fest of Jain University, Centre for Management Studies was an enduring example of this. Alone in a darkened audience, each member made a connect with what happened on stage, interpreting issues in a very special personal space. Isn’t that what theater is all about? Two days of exploring one’s relevance and one’s values in a calm, reflective setting – that was the essence of Abhinaya.

The day kick started with play of the ‘Om Creations’ from Pune who performed ‘Rangmanch Ke Kwaab’ showcasing the struggle of a theatre artist in the making. The event also had teams from Nagpur and Kolkatta who took the mark of theatre to the next level. Following which the event proceeded into the Kannada events. It started with the very own CMS students performing for a play called Sakshigalu, followed by the team of Canara Bank, who staged Neralu. This was followed by a lunch break and the fest continued to showcase some of the best plays in town like Tugalak, a famous play written by Girish Karnad, Smashana Kurukshetra written by Kuvempu and Hadagali Bedara Dange which showcased a village’s opposition to the British rule.

The valedictory was a summation of the two days of eventful theater. It saw thespians like Sudha Belavadi, Prakash Kambathhalli , M. Purushotham, Jayavanth Desai and many more being honoured for their contribution to the performing arts. The evening was no less than any awards function as the winners took home the black lady. Thus leaving everyone to look forward to the next CMS festival and bidding adieu to CMS festival 2011.

Precipice 2011 - a National level business quiz was held on 3^rd February 2011. The quiz was highly challenging and the participants from various colleges & Corporates were present. Mr. Giri Balasubramaniam was the MC for the event which saw innumerable radio jingles and advertisements adding to the excitement of the fest.

Dr. R. Chenraj Jain, Chairman of the JGI group was called upon to bestow the awards to the winners. The quiz comprised of 10 teams, 5 from well known colleges across India and the other 5 from leading Corporates across India.

Every round had its own specialty and incorporated a unique quizzing pattern.

Mrs.Kavita Krishnamurthy Subramaniam, renowned and critically acclaimed playback singer inaugurated LASYA the cultural fest hosted by Center of Management Studies, Jain University. Speaking at the Nimhans Convention Center to students, she urged them to follow their dreams while striving for virtues and values in a materialistic world.

The Chief Guest and all the participants were heartily welcomed by the Founder and Chairman Chenraj Jain of The JGI Group and Dinesh Nilkant Principal of Center of Management Studies.

In just the second year LASYA has grown in popularity as one of the biggest cultural fests in Bangalore. Colleges from all over the country are participating in three broad categories of events such as: literature, arts and stage events. Some of the students gave their opinions regarding the event that is going on “I think LASYA was very well organized. There were no problem and everything was quick. The arrangements were really good especially the stage set-up” said Pallavi, the winner of the Acapella music event from St. Johns Medical College.

The final day of Lasya began with fun and frolic between the teachers and students of the Centre of Management Studies, Jain University. They played the classic game of antakshari. It got the students and participants gathered completely energized. The popular Kannada folk form Yakshagana was performed with élan which kept the students wanting for more. “The true essence of culture and art under one roof was brought out very well through the Yakshagana performance,” said Mrs.Hemalatha, a faculty of Centre for Management Studies, Jain University.

Lasya has kept its promise of delivering a cultural experience which was both refreshing and varied, for participants and spectators as well. One of the most anticipated events was the Guitar Wars. Western Group Dance and Indian Classical Dance, For Guitar Wars, guitarists from all of Bangalore were head-to-head against one another to prove, who the better guitarist was. The Western Group Dance event had crowds going wild with performances on Hip-Hop numbers, coupled with truly stunning choreography. The Classical Dance performance showcased the vast cultural diversity of India. Western dance included colleges such as Jyoti Nivas College, St.Josephs College, Mount Carmel College and many others were dancing to the tunes of Hip Hop, RNB and Electronic Rock.

The most awaited event of one of the best B- schools in India Center for Management Studies came into reality on the 1st of February. This year’s theme for the fest was Cathexis.

The program started off on an auspicious note by seeking the blessings of the Divine through an invocation song by the students of CMS. This was followed by the Chairman of the The JGI Group, Dr.R.Chenraj Jain and the head of CMS, Mr. Dinesh Nilkant. There was an enthralling inaugural dance to the beats of the song Mahaganapathim.

The event sponsors were JGI Ventures India Pvt. Ltd. The co-sponsors for the event were Google, Samaavesh, NDTV Profit, Gajanand Jewellers, Karbonn Mobiles, Bangalore Mirror, Syndicate Bank, Radio One, Urvashi, Advaith Hyundai and the co-sponsors being K2 learning and Micro Labs Limted.

Sri Dinesh Nilkant, Centre Head-CMS addressed the audience and wished the event success. The Chief Guest, Ms. Jessie Paul, Chief Marketing Officer of Paul Writer, B2B enterprise and an expert in brand globalization gave an inspiring speech to the audience exhorting them to prioritize, to make themselves relevant and also to truly enjoy what they did. She signed off saying “Enjoy Maadi”!

The Chairman, Dr. Chenraj Jain enthralled the crowd with his astounding speech intended to inspire the youth.

The first event was the business plan which had a spectacular set of students showing off their marketing skills. The event saw the marketing of - cars without a drivers, colour therapy, etc.

The next event was Nation branding which saw the participants impress the audience with their exemplary presentation skills.

Lunch was a sumptuous spread courtesy -The Food Fest that was arranged as a part of the CMS Festival. It saw the convergence of various cuisines on a single platter. The cuisines ranged from Rajasthani, Gujarathi to South Indian and Chinese.

Electrifying dances and songs performed by the first year students of the BBM and BMS courses enthralled and entertained the audience.

The afternoon session started off with the much awaited Best Manager Event. It saw the various participants from renowned Business Schools vying for the title of Best Manager.

The teams that competed for the coveted title of the Best Manager were from Jain College, J.C. Road, Christ University’s B.Com Professional, Christ University BBM Department and St. Josephs College of Commerce. The winner was Christ University BBM.

The day ended on a very touching yet pragmatic valedictory, but as they say tomorrow is yet another day and another bag full of even greater surprises at Lasya - Day 1 ...
